Teaser Tuesday: The Way of Kings

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Anyone can play along! Just do the following:

• Grab your current read
• Open to a random page
• Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
• BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
• Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!

My Teaser:

“Bashin?” Dalinar said, his voice suddenly alarmed. “Shouldn’t there be bait on the end of that beast’s rope?”

– The Way of Kings by Brandson Sanderson.

I am rereading this because the next book comes out next month and this is a loooong book. I hadn’t realized how long until I picked it up again.

There are whole chapters up on Tor’s site.

Happy New Year and Teaser Tuesday

Happy New Year people! Today is the last day of this year! I think I will be glad to see it go.

I like how the 3 is falling away. Bombs away 3!

So today is also Tuesday and this is will be the last teaser Tuesday for this year:

“It’s not going to make a very good story, in the annals of my time as sister queen.” She quoted dryly, ‘Then her consort jumped up and knocked the foreign queen unconscious with a kettle.’

– The Serpent Sea by Martha Wells.

This is a reread. Martha Wells is one of my favorite writers. I’ve reviewed it here.

Yes, I chose to start Necessity’s Child yesterday exactly because the title starts with N and I needed an N post. Also, this book has been on my TBR list for a couple of weeks now and I figure it’s time to move the book to the top of the pile. It’s Liaden Universe book, which are usually fun.

The first two lines are:

Inside the duct, it was hot and wet – nothing new there, thought Kezzi, shifting her weight carefully. The metal snapped in complaint, and she made herself be still.

–  Necessity’s Child by Sharon Lee & Steve Miller

This is a Baen book and the first nine chapters are available on Baen’s website.

Stefen groaned and covered his eyes. “Kernos’ codpiece, don’t remind me. My bed is as you see it. Virtuously empty.”

Teaser Tuesday: The Road

It’s National Novel Reading Month. Time to read that classic novel you put off reading. Last year I read The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. This year, I am reading The Road by Cormac McCarthy.

With the first gray light he rose and left the boy sleeping and walked out to the road and squatted and studied the country to the south. Barren, silent, godless. He thought the month was October but he wasnt sure. He hadnt kept a calendar for years. They were moving south. There’d be no surviving another winter here. – The Road by Cormac McCarthy.

My Teasers:

Thunder cracked – worrisome for electronics, but he wasn’t working on his computer this trip. That machine had far, far too much in its storage to be bringing it into Taisigi territory, and he’d sent it on to the capital with his valets and significant items of furniture, the computer itself to be hand carried and guarded every step of the way. The spiral-bound notebook was enough for him, along with a stack a loose-leaf work and printouts, and within the briefcase, a folder of very official papers, vellum with red and black wax seals and carefully preserved ribbons.

She had chosen to trade barrenness and the risk of death for the chance of strength. Real strength, her own. Not the mirror-caught power her father, his widow, her half brothers or her dead husband might have happened to shine her way.

It seemed but a small sacrifice.
