Happy New Year

Happy New Year and Teaser Tuesday

Happy New Year people! Today is the last day of this year! I think I will be glad to see it go.

I like how the 3 is falling away. Bombs away 3!

So today is also Tuesday and this is will be the last teaser Tuesday for this year:

“It’s not going to make a very good story, in the annals of my time as sister queen.” She quoted dryly, ‘Then her consort jumped up and knocked the foreign queen unconscious with a kettle.’

– The Serpent Sea by Martha Wells.

This is a reread. Martha Wells is one of my favorite writers. I’ve reviewed it here.

New Year Resolutions: 2012

The new year is here. I got a few resolutions. Last year I only had four.

  1. Finish reading A Game of Thrones. It is the first book in the Song of Ice and Fire by George R. R. Martin. I’ve tried to read it three times and failed. All the terrible, immoral deeds the characters commit make it hard. They are pretty realistic. It’s not that the other books I read don’t have terrible things happen, they just don’t hit me as hard. Think it’s because the book just feels a lot more real than other reading. But I could deal with that if there was a single character I wanted to cheer for.
  2. Write at least 300 words a day, same resolution as last year. Hopefully I will do better this year.
  3. Get at least two short stories accepted, hopefully more. Last year’s resolution was one story, but I am pretty sure I can do better now. I did the Write One Submit One thing to good effect last year, but I never blogged about it and I am not sure I will this year, either.
  4. Get the WiP fit to query.

Happy New Year’s Eve people!

So today’s is a mild day. I am grateful; last year there was enough snow on the ground to make travel problematic on New Year’s Eve. So, yeah, I am grateful. Especially since we had both an earthquake and a hurricane this year – a blizzard would be just thing to round out the year.

I haven’t quite decided on my New Year resolutions yet. I will have by tomorrow hopefully. Kind of have to, there isn’t much time left.

Last year I only had four resolutions. I managed 1 completely and two others partially.

The first one was to keep unread posts in my Google reader to 0. This was an epic fail. I don’t know many I have in my Google reader, but more than a 1000. It doesn’t count past 1000 so it’s hard to know the exact number. I did, however, mange to mostly keep up with other writer/reader/editor/agent/random publishing blogs I follow. I severely reduced the number of those sorts of blogs this year so keeping up was easier. The blogs I failed to keep up with involve history and NY and various other things.

I was only partially successful in writing 300 words a day and finishing the WiP. I didn’t quite manage to write everyday and sometimes it was less than 300 words. But I came close. 😉 So I am not upset. The WiP is almost done so . . . should be done this month. Does a month late count?

And some few songs which probably captures the goings on of New Year: Party Rock Anthem by LMFAO, Party by Beyoncé & Cheers by Rihanna

New Year Resolutions

Happy New Year! It is a new year and a new decade. I don’t know what this year will bring. But whatever it is, it better be good. LOL

This is a scheduled post, mostly because I have no idea where I will be on the 1st. Either recovering from a New Year’s party and in no condition to post anything; or recovering from being stuck in the snow on my way to the New Year’s party and too upset to be coherent; or possibly, asleep from the exhaustion of digging out the car and then forced back due to snow-covered streets. Wherever I am, I likely will not be willing or able to post anything.

So . . . my New Year Resolutions. I have only a few.

  1. To keep the unread posts in my Google reader to 0. I used to subscribe to a lot more blogs, but the number of unread posts reached daunting levels and I stopped even signing in. Now, there are only 25 or so blogs. I should be able to keep up with them, yeah?
  2. To write at least 300 words everyday. I don’t write everyday now and there really is no excuse. I have the novel and there is usually at least one short story in the works, so there is always something to work on. I should be writing more.
  3. To get at least one story published. I am going to push a lot harder this year to get a short story published.
  4. To finish the novel in progress. Despite having just realized I need to start from the beginning again, I want to finish it this year.
