Friday Flash: Coffee

Another drabble for Friday flash! It was inspired by this photo from wiki commons.

He paused. Stared at the cup of coffee someone had left.

The white porcelain cup and saucer sat all alone on the park bench. Such carelessness! A small spoon lay on the saucer.

The delicious coffee smell wafted to his nose – cinnamon hazelnut. His mouth watered.

He touched fingertips to the cup. Still warm. Picking up the spoon, he stirred gently.

He looked around and determined no one in the park was paying him any mind. He cradled cup and saucer in his hands gleefully and went off.

An elderly woman stopped pretending to sleep, watched him go and cackled.

  1. That’s quite cool. Leaves it wide open for a positive ending and a creepy ending.

  2. Oooh, mysterious. Maybe she owns a majority stock in Folgers? Or maybe he’s going to turn into a frog. Either way, I like it.

  3. Amazing how much this could change if you change elderly woman to anything else. “Young boy” I would assume something totally different is in the coffee. Thanks for sharing.

  4. Interesting how many people assumed she was evil. I assumed she was kind and had managed to give a gift that had always been spurned.

Maybe because I didn’t stereotype the word cackle. Enjoy a few myself, Robin
