Today is Diwali. In India, Diwali is about fireworks and food, visiting neighbors and family, decoration and cleaning. Here, where I live, it is about food and the pooja. There is a fair amount of intense cleaning involved, too, but precious little decoration. There are no fireworks – fireworks are illegal here. Anyway, it is too cold outside to be standing about and setting off fireworks. If it weren’t for our parents and family, I think I would barely notice Diwali’s arrival. Which is damn sad. So here is to everyone out there . . . Happy Diwali!
